The premise of this worship service is that democracy is in danger, but we are not powerless; we all have meaningful ways to save our democratic system. One of those things is to become an active part of civil society, holding up our non-governmental institutions. These groups are necessary in the functioning of healthy democracies. When people join organizations, they increase their democratic competence, keep institutions accountable, build a culture of engagement, build social trust and social capital, create norms of reciprocity, cut across diversities, and value solidarity and cooperation, all of which leads to good governance, economic prosperity, and political stability.
