In Memoriam: John J. Considine (1948-2024)

John J. Considine (07/18/1948 – 09/17/2024)
Former Florida State Representative, John Considine, III, died September 17, 2024 in hospice care and surrounded by his family. His last moments with his family were beautiful.

He was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 18, 1948 the first of three children born to John Considine, Jr. and Louise Lucia Considine. His parents moved their young family to Lake Worth, Florida in 1957.

John graduated from Cardinal Newman High School in 1966 and then from Villanova University in 1970. He earned his law degree from the University of Florida where he was president of the student body. In 1974, at the age of 26, John was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in the Democratic wave that swept the nation post-Watergate. He was re-elected in 1976.

John was Chairman of the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation in 1976-1977. He then ran for the seat of retiring Congressman Paul Rogers in the U.S. House of Representatives. John introduced and shepherded through the Legislature, Florida’s Generic Drug Act, which was the first of its kind lowering prices of medications for consumers.

After his time in public service, John returned to the practice of law in West Palm Beach before retiring to become an ordained Unity minister. He ministered for the rest of his life having congregations in California, Idaho and Michigan. John believed in the power of New Thought to make people’s lives richer and fuller.

John loved singing and acting and performed many times at The Lake Worth Playhouse. He brought a smile to friends and strangers alike everywhere he went with his witty sense of humor. He counseled many people through hardships in their lives. John truly was a special man.

John is survived by his four children: Patrick (Kelly), Brendan, Natalie and Tamsin. He was a wonderful Grandpa to Star, Phoenix, Xiola, and Violet, whom he loved so very much. He is also survived by his devoted brother, Joe Considine (sister-in-love, Dr. Alicia Haywood); nephews: Brian (Amanda) Birney and Andrew Considine; nieces: Laurel Considine, Anna Considine, and Danielle Labbe; extended family across the country, including the Tassis and McLeans; family friends: Julia Considine, Susan Considine and Sally Gates. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Mary Anne Birney.

John’s family is extremely grateful for the care provided to him by the staff of St. Mary’s Stroke Unit and at Trustbridge Hospice Care.

A celebration of John’s extraordinary life will be held at 11 a.m. ET on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Palm Beaches located at 635 Prosperity Farms Road, North Palm Beach, FL 33408.
