Patricia Evans (nee Russell), 71, of Reston, VA passed away on August 18, 2023. She was born on October 20, 1951 in Hartford, CT to Don and Jane Russell. Patty graduated from Riviera Beach High School in Palm Beach County, Florida and then earned a B.A. in History from Elon University, where she was chief justice of the Honor Board and a sister with Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. She worked as a Religious Education Director and was dedicated to helping and supporting her family. You could count on Patty to be cheerleader to her children and grandchildren on the soccer field or celebrating life’s milestones.

Patty is survived by her husband, Gary; daughter, Annie Evans Trotta (David Trotta); son, Matt Evans (Laura Pijor); granddaughters Madison Evans, Ava Evans, and Stella Evans; grandson, Wells Trotta; brothers Jim Russell, Rick Russell, and Neil Russell; sister, Conni Lawson; and nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother John Russell.

Patty was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax and previously the First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Palm Beaches. She enjoyed kayaking, landscaping, fixing up and donating bikes to those in need, and spending time with her extended family at a 110-year-old beach cottage in Wells, Maine, passed down from her great- grandparents.

Patty was always an advocate for progressive causes that addressed the needs of women and those less fortunate in our society. She was always up for a march on Washington!

A born recycler, she never threw away anything but always looked to give things to others.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Planned Parenthood, Elon University or the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax (UUCF).
A celebration of life service will be held at UUCF on September 23, 2023 at 4:00pm.
