***JOIN US ON MARCH 25th***
We are kicking off our Film Series with Ava DuVernay’s (Selma, A Wrinkle in Time, Queen Sugar) 5-part series When They See Us. A 2019 dramatization of the events of the 1989 attack on a White female jogger who was raped and beaten in NYC’s Central Park, it follows the lives of the five Black and Latino youth who were falsely accused, quickly prosecuted and jailed for years before eventually being exonerated for the crimes.
“Part dirge, part indictment, the series stands out because it insists that we see the boys as they once were and as they always saw themselves: innocent.” – The New York Times
“[A] dense, fast-moving series that examines not just the effects of systemic racism but the effects of all sorts of disenfranchisement . . . on people with the boys’ background.” – The Guardian
There will be a discussion after each episode led by Wayne Johnson.
