May Day

Since 1889, International Workers’ Day , or “May Day” shares its date with the traditional annual celebration of first day of summer. The traditional holiday was chosen as the date for International Workers’ Day by socialists, communists, anarchists, labor activists, and other leftists, to commemorate the Haymarket affair in Chicago and the struggle for an eight-hour working day.
